typography of the decades

Walking down Haight Street the other day, I started to notice the "sixties" style typography used in so many of the storefronts and countless posters being sold in the stores. This made me think about that just like there are different styles of clothing and furniture that we associate with different decades, there are also different types of typography.
the Fifties

the Sixties

the Seventies
the Eighties
Of course, these are quite stereotypical examples. But, just like not every person int the sixties was a hippie and not everyone in the 70's wore bell bottoms, there are just certain styles in each area of design that become iconic and seem to define the generation.
